Children under 16 years
All children of compulsory school age, up to and including the age of 16 years, must be chaperoned whilst engaged in any voice-over recording. This applies to recordings taking place in the Kidztalk studio and all outside studios.
The law states that only the mother, father or legal guardian of the child, or a registered chaperone, is allowed to accompany the child during the recording. Unfortunately grandparents and other members of the family are not legally permitted to chaperone, unless they have completed a chaperone course and are registered.
Parents are welcome to chaperone their own child during sessions. However, if this isn’t possible due to other commitments, we have our own lovely registered chaperones who are qualified to safeguard children at our studio or to accompany them to London sessions.
Please note that it is illegal for children to work without a certified chaperone. Performance licences are not valid if there is no chaperone present at the recording.
For projects, where two or more children are taking part in the same session, we provide one of our registered chaperones, under the guidelines, to be with the group of children.
Sometimes a fee is paid for chaperoning your own child for a recording session. This depends on the client’s budget. Professional chaperones will always be paid.
